Consultations and quotes

Consultations and tasting are by appointment only. There is £30 non-refundable fee for this service. However, if you book your wedding cake with Jip’s Cakes, £30 will be deducted off your final payment. Quotes are created during or after your consultation and valid for 30 days as prices are subject to change. a cake taster box can also be purchased at £30 per box.

Payment

To secure you booking, we require a £100.00 deposit. The balance of your wedding cake booking is due 6 weeks before your wedding date. Once received these sums become non- refundable and non-transferrable should you cancel your order for any reason.

By securing your date with your non-refundable deposit, you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.

Change of Wedding Date

If, for any reason you wish to re-arrange the date of your wedding, we will try our best to accommodate these changes without any additional charges provided sufficient notice is given and that we are able to provide a cake for the re-arranged wedding date. However, if we are fully booked on your new wedding date and cannot provide the wedding cake, it will not be possible to refund your deposit. The limiting factor with any cake provision is usually the cake set-up. As a compromise, it may be possible to provide you with a cake prior to your wedding date, but under these circumstances it will become your responsibility to collect, deliver and set-up the cake at the venue.

Delivery and set up

There will be a small mileage charge for venues that are further away. The delivery charge will be quoted along with the order summary.  We will coordinate with your venue for the most suitable delivery time. We do not charge for the setting up of your cake.

Alterations

We are happy to make alterations to your cake design and order up to 4 weeks prior to your event date. If ordering cupcakes or mini cakes you may also alter the quantity of your order. Please be aware that this may affect the balance due and your invoice will be adjusted accordingly.

From time to time certain materials for our cakes may become obsolete or no longer available from our suppliers, for example, pre-manufactured items or ribbon colours. Given that this would not be within our control, we would endeavour to re-design the cake to reflect as closely as possible the original design using alternative products. In all cases we will try to contact you to advise you of any such changes. However we reserve the right to replace these with components of equal or better quality without consultation.

The Cake

Wedding cakes are baked and decorated with the intention that it is to be consumed on the wedding day. Jip’s Cakes cannot be held responsible for the cake’s freshness beyond that date. In case of leftovers, decorated rich fruit cakes will keep for several months. For the best quality, fondant iced sponge cakes should be eaten within 3 days of delivery/collection however, they can be kept frozen up to approximately 3 months. It is recommend that naked cakes are not left uneaten for more than 3 hours as the sponge will dry out. Cupcakes are best eaten on the day of collection or the following day.

On the wedding day Cakes should NEVER be chilled in the fridge, including naked cakes.  Similarly, they should never be left in a location that experiences temperatures higher than the ambient environment (such as a car, near radiators, or in direct sunlight).  A cool environment (not a fridge!) is ideal where possible.

Cakes can easily crumble if not cut and handled correctly. Use a long-handled sharp-bladed knife to cut your cake and make sure that you clean the blade in-between cuts since a dirty knife will disrupt the crumbs on the cake, resulting in unappetising slices of cakes. Ornamental knives used for photographs are generally not suitable. We recommend that you make a couple of cuttings for photo opportunities and ask the catering team cut the cake into the desired serving size for the guests. To maximise available servings, we advise the cake to be cut in 1” x 1” coffee portions. Please note that most of the tiers will have internal supports (food safe, wooden dowels) to ensure the cake stands straight and supports the weight of the tiers above. These must be removed before cutting.

Rustic buttercream finished cakes and semi-naked cakes are not advisable during hot months unless there is sufficient air conditioning at your venue. Jip’s Cakes cannot be held responsible for heat damage to a buttercream finish cake during hot weather once it has been set up at your venue.

During warmer months marquees get very hot if they do not have air conditioning. Jip’s Cakes cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your cake by heat or insects once it has been set up at your venue.

If you have any concerns regarding your finished cake please notify me at the point of collection/delivery so I have the chance to rectify it in time for your event.

Compensation will never be given for any cake that has been consumed regardless of dispute, as consumption of the cake is viewed as your acceptance that the cake was fit for the purpose for which it was supplied.

Flowers and inedible items

At the request of the client, cakes sometimes contain inedible items such as broaches, ribbons, wires, fresh or gumpaste flowers, models and internal supports, etc. These items must be removed before serving. Jip’s Cakes accept no responsibility for any harm these might cause.

We can provide flowers to decorate your cake, or we can liaise directly with your florist. Please be aware that some flowers are not suitable for cake decoration, or may be toxic if eaten, therefore all foliage must be removed before serving.  We use food safe barriers on gumpaste or fresh flowers before adding them to the cake.

If real flowers are being added to a cake by a third party after the installation, then it must be noted that the water residue can sometimes affect the icing or cake surface.

Dietary Requirements

We are happy to offer suggestions on cakes that are ‘free from’ certain ingredients.

Our usual recipes contain eggs, alcohol and wheat. We do not use nuts in any of our cakes, however nuts are frequently used in our kitchen. Please be aware of this since Jip’s Cakes cannot be held responsible for any ingredient contaminated at source, or any harm that may occur. If you are unsure, please just ask. Food colouring used in cakes or decorations are suitable for vegetarians.
